he City of Frederick's Fair Housing Commission, the Human Relations Commission of Frederick County and the Housing Authority of the City of Frederick have partnered to sponsor a community-wide Fair Housing Symposium on Saturday, April 30, 2011, in celebration of Fair Housing Month. The event, with the theme "Fair Housing in Frederick - Equality Matters", is free and open to the public. The symposium will feature presentations on the basics of the Fair Housing Act, property owners and tenant's rights, foreclosure prevention and housing resources available to vulnerable populations. The keynote speaker will be Debra McGhee, Director of US Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Baltimore Fair Housing Center. Ms. McGhee will discuss the Fair Housing Act and provide updates on HUD's fair housing enforcement. The event will open with proclamation presentations and welcome remarks from elected officials from the City, County and State. The symposium will be held at Hillcrest Elementary School located at 1285 Hillcrest Drive, Frederick, MD beginning at 9:30am. Ample parking is available in the school parking lot. Light refreshments will be served.
