DC government appears to have brought a classic car and pimped their ride DC style
On Thursday, May 5, Mayor Vincent C. Gray and his son, Carlos Gray, will present a ceremonial key to the city to popular R&B/neo-soul singer Raheem DeVaughn for his âtireless commitment to youth and HIV/AIDS awareness.â The ceremony will take place at 2:00 p.m. on the front steps of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW. DeVaughn, 35, who was nominated for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance at the 2008 Grammy Awards for his hit single âWoman,â was born in Newark, N.J., but raised in Maryland counties (Montgomery and Prince Georgeâs) adjacent to the District of Columbia. He broke into the music industry by working the District music circuit, performing with popular local groups and at venues along the U Street corridor. Throughout his career, DeVaughn has participated in youth-oriented programs and been a strong advocate of students staying in school. He has also been heavily involved with HIV/AIDS awareness, which has been enhanced by his five-year partnership with the Centers for Disease Control. Mayor Gray chose to recognize DeVaughn because of the singerâs concern for youth and HIV/AIDS awareness along with his immense popularity among young listeners, especially in the metropolitan Washington area. The day of the ceremony will also be DeVaugnâs birthday. He will be 36 years old.
The group stayed at Fellowship House, a Quaker meetinghouse and dormitory at 945 L Street, NW, where they underwent orientation for the ride. This included role-playing exercises, presentations on the culture of the Deep South and federal and state laws regarding discrimination in interstate transportation, and training in nonviolence and what to do in case of arrest. They agreed not to seek bail if arrested but to serve out their terms. Volunteers were free to back out, without being stigmatized, of what would surely be a dangerous journey. SOURCE
Yes, Mayor Vincent Gray and various DC council people have been arrested. They were protesting the DC Budget proposal by Congress. If protest like this continue, things may change for the better.
Gerri Mason Hall recently resigned from her post as Chief of State for District of Columbia. At this point in time, Hall has not released an official statement. As Mayor Gray starts his new political post as Mayor of the District Of Columbia, he is more distracted with the personal backgrounds of his hand picked staff then day to day DC business.
Where did Hall come from? We know recently one of her sons resigned too. He was one of the family members of the recently appointments of Mayor Gray that received average paying jobs in DC government in these hard times after Gray won the election. Although favors are not uncommon in the political lifestyle, the economic times of today have people looking at everything.
Hall is a native Washingtonian and may like Chunk Brown. Hall was educated at Vassar College and obtain a law degree from The George Washington University. Hall's professional career went as follows. She has served as the corporation's assistant vice president of human resources and senior director of training and development. Prior to joining Amtrak in 1997, she worked for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights as the deputy assistant staff director for management/director of personnel. She was honored with "25 Influential Black Women in Business" by a New York's leading magazine. Gerri Mason Hall worked as Vice President of Business Diversity and Strategic Initiatives for Amtrak, where she worked to design an implement Amtrakâs diversity programs. She also previously held positions with the U.S. Commission of Civil Rights as Acting Agency Director, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management as Counsel to the Deputy Director and the D.C. Office of Personnel as Deputy ! Director/General Counsel. Hall is also a member of the Clinton Administration during his term as POTUS(President of the United States).
With high level cabinet members taking pay cuts, Hall may have said no to the pay cut but, this is just speculation. If Hall has some skeletons in her closet , people have to wait till the stories in the DMV start to develop.
There is only one question that remains. Can Mayor Gray find good people for the pay rate?
http://dmvblogspot.bloggieblog.com/4015/4015.htmlMayor Gray ordered a more stringent personnel review and background check of all Excepted Service appointees in his administration. This action is the result of his concern that the vetting process currently in place is not sufficient to identify all of the challenges that may be experienced by potential hires.
People want to know if Mayor Gray is covering his butt after the recent problem with Sulaimon Brown. Brown was the dude fired for allegedly having some questionable problems in his past.
âWhile a vetting process was implemented, it is clear that the approach was not thorough enough to address all relevant issues and questions for Excepted Service appointments,â said Mayor Gray. âMoving forward, I want to make sure that we check and double-check all current and future Excepted Service appointees by also engaging our own Metropolitan Police Department.â
