The Creative Connections Project incorporates various Baltimore arts organizations, schools in Baltimore City, Peabody Institute and the United Kingdom’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama to provide musical experiences by encouraging creativity and collaboration between music communities and individuals. The project employs collaborative composition, improvisation and group activities to engage participants in the creative process while taking into consideration each individual’s voice. This concert is a culmination of musicians from the OrchKids, Baltimore School for the Arts, New Song Academy, Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins, and three visiting musicians from London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

the Creative Connections Project, on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 3 p.m. at City Neighbors High School. Guest artists include London musicians Ross McDouall, Heather Truesdall and Sam Mumford and program directors Jill Collier and Daniel Trahey. OrchKids community concerts are funded by the Paul M. Angell Family Foundation and showcase the program and its students’ significant musical accomplishments with the broader Baltimore community.

Although Baltimore City's population is majority African American, the graduation rate for most of the polling ethnic groups was at 50 percent or lower except for the Asian community.

Largest year-to-year increase in a decade in leaver rate and 20 percent increase over four years; 87 percent of 2011 cohort graduated on time or remains in school after four years; Historically low dropout rate and African American male gains drive overall progress

In its release of 2010-11 high school performance data for the state and its school districts today, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) issued two graduation measures: its longstanding “leaver” rate and a new “cohort” rate, the official means of measuring graduation in Maryland, starting this year. On both counts, Baltimore City Public Schools showed significant increases over 2009-10.

In 2010-11, City Schools awarded 4,595 diplomas, up from 4,421 in 2009-10 and 4,118 in 2006-07. This translates into solid, across-the-board graduation gains. City Schools’ leaver rate, the one the state has used since it first started

tracking graduation in 1997, is 71.9 percent, up from 65.9 percent in 2009-10 and 60.1 percent in 2006-07â€"the biggest one-year increase in a decade for the district, and a 20-percent jump over four years.

Today, the Baltimore City Department of Finance learned of fraudulent phone calls made to senior citizens regarding their property tax bills. Residents were told by individuals posing as City officials that they owed money to the City, and that someone would come to their house, in person, to collect. City officials urge anyone who received the phone call to contact 3-1-1 to file a report.

“It is important that residents know of this scam, and that they are armed with facts in case they are contacted,” said Edward Gallagher, Director of the Department of Finance. “Rememberâ€"at no time will a City official contact you in person regarding your property tax bill. Any correspondence regarding that issue will be conducted by mail.”

According to Department of Finance, no one contacted by the scam-artists was behind on their tax payments.

Some may say for too long Baltimore rich creative community of the arts is not promoted enough. Although there are events like Art-scape, Art-scape does not allow the main areas of Baltimore to express themselves.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was joined by local artists, event sponsors, and representatives from the Baltimore Office of Promotion & the Arts to announce the return of Free Fall Baltimore. Presented by Susquehanna Bank, the 6th annual event will take place throughout the month of October at locations in Baltimore City. Free Fall Baltimore is a promotional collaboration designed to make a wide variety of cultural experiences accessible to all residents of Baltimore City and beyond.

“This year, Free Fall Baltimore puts the spotlight on some of our smaller cultural gems,” said Mayor Rawlings-Blake. “Free Fall Baltimore allows residents and visitors to have a taste of our rich and diverse arts community, exposing them to everything that makes our hometown great. I encourage all of Baltimore to take part in everything Free Fall Baltimore has to offer.”

ayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake joined Congressman Elijah Cummings, Baltimore City Council President Bernard “Jack” Young, elected officials, representatives of Liberty Heights Shopping Center, LLC, and residents of the Howard Park community for a demolition at the future location of a state-of-the-art, full-service ShopRite supermarket on Liberty Heights Avenue in Northwest Baltimore.

Last month, the Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC), acting on behalf of the City of Baltimore, obtained Board of Estimates approval for an agreement with Liberty Heights Shopping Center, LLC to develop a 67,250 sq. ft. Class A supermarket with over 200 parking spaces. ShopRite of Liberty Heights will include a pharmacy, a health suite staffed by a nurse practitioner, a bakery, an extensive seafood section, and a halal butcher to serve the growing Muslim population in the Howard Park community. The store will also employ a full-time community relations coordinator. Project costs are estimated at $18 million (including store equipment).

“For too long, people in this community had to take long trips to get the basic ingredients they need to cook a healthy meal at homeâ€"soon they will have everything they need in their own backyard,” said Mayor Rawlings-Blake. “I want to thank residents for working in partnership with the City to develop a plan to bring new jobs and economic opportunity to Howard Park.”

Andrew Gross, of Columbia, Maryland had one dream, according to his lawyer Steven D. Silverman: to serve his country as an Army Officer and as a civil servant for the State of Maryland. "Lt. Gross is filing this suit so military men and women know that when they put their lives on the line for their country, their country will support them when they get home," Silverman said. "This is a disgraceful way to treat our vets."

One of those dreams was shot down when he returned from active duty only to learn that his employer wouldn't rehire him, according the claim. Lt. Gross was employed by the City of Baltimore as a prosecutor in the Baltimore City State's attorney's office.

"Once again we hear of another young man, allegedly shunned by his hometown and denied an employment opportunity after giving service to his country," said Steven D. Silverman, Gross's attorney. "What makes matters worse is that his employer is the Mayor of Baltimore and the Baltimore City State's Attorney's office."

"The law stands behind Lt. Gross, Silverman added. "It's unfortunate his employers --- who of all people should know better -- do not."

Court documents show the State’s Attorney’s office has hired a law firm based in Philadelphia to defend the case.

The suit comes out of the decision the State's Attorney's refusal to rehire Mr. Gross in alleged violation of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act ("USERRA"), as amended, 38 U.S.C. §§ 4301 et seq., including Plaintiff's right to be free from discrimination because of active duty military service in the United States Army Reserve ("Army Reserve") and/or his right to reclaim his employment after being absent due to his service to country. In addition, this action arises under Md. Code Ann., State Pers. & Pens. §§ 2-701 et seq., which likewise prohibits discrimination because of service in the Army Reserve and otherwise entitles reservists like Plaintiff to reclaim his employment after being absent due to military service or training.

Baltimore City has new community center for all to use . Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake joined Council President Jack Young, State Delegate Cheryl Glenn, Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, Councilman Robert Curran, Councilman Nicholas D’Adamo, Recreation and Parks Director Gregory Bayor, residents of the Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello community, and the family of the late Councilwoman Rita R. Church to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Rita R. Church Pavilion and Community Center. Located in the Clifton Park neighborhood, this is the first community center designed to meet the criteria of the Mayor’s Task Force on Recreation Centers.

“The Rita Church Recreation Center is a great example of our plan to expand recreation opportunities for people in our communities,” said Mayor Rawlings-Blake. “It is the first community center specifically designed to meet the criteria of the Mayor’s Task Force on Recreation Centers, which will enhance recreation opportunities for the people of Baltimore by reviving old centers and offering activities that people want and will use on a regular basis.”

The project includes the renovation of historic structures, as well as the construction of new facilities. The project will be constructed in two phases. The first phase, to be completed by September 2012, will add locker rooms, an elevator, and mechanical rooms on the lower level. The second level of the building will house a lounge space, computer lab, kitchen/craft room, multi-purpose room, game room, and office space. The second phase, currently in design, will add 11,500 square feet and include a gymnasium, restrooms, and concession space.

This should be a good look for Baltimore. Although Rawlings-Blake allegedly got the job because along time ago on a Bolton Hill her farther backed a young lad that is governor now and, he return the favor to the house of Rawlings and all were happy in the land of developers.

Rawlings-Blake will need to bring her a game because the candidates want that seat bad.

Although Rawlings-Blake is announcing a summer food program, Mayor Rawlings-Blake has failed to provided a plan that will take the large disadvantage people of her political voting base from beggars to feeders or not dependent on hand outs. Rawlings-Blake may not be measuring up to her fathers legacy that help and pushed people ahead.

Mayor Rawlings-Blake was joined by city and state officials, business partners, and former NFL pro Antonio Freeman to announce details about the 2011 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). The program, which is administered by Baltimore Housing’s Office of Community Services, will officially start on June 20th and will run though August 19th, 2011. Children ages 18 and under will receive a nutritional breakfast and lunch five days a week during the summer months when schools are closed.

“I want to thank our public and private partners for their support of the Summer Food Service Program, and of our children,” said Mayor Rawlings-Blake. “The program provides free meals to needy children so they can get the nutrition they need to learn, play, and grow throughout the summer months.”

In keeping with a pledge made in her state of the City Address, today, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced details about a new comprehensive volunteer plan: stepUP! Baltimore. The initiative will leverage volunteer service as a strategy to address the most pressing challenges in Baltimore’s communities including, drug addiction, vacant lots, and youth violence. stepUP! Baltimore was developed with support from a Cities of Service Leadership Grant. Baltimore is one of only twenty cities across the country to be awarded the grant. The new volunteer plan will be implemented during the summer.
