Everyone thought Anti-Bacterial Soaps was safe. Anti-bacterial soaps make us less safe, by leaving surviving bacteria stronger. What's worse, the chemical used to produce this result effect is suspected of causing deadly illnesses. The Environmental Protection Agency has so far declined to regulate this chemical, triclosan, but is now taking public comment on the issue until this Monday, February 7. Natural cosmetics company Ecco Bella has joined the campaign urging the EPA to ban triclosan. Read the full article to learn how you can contact the EPA.

Imagine going for a swim with your family, only to realize the water is full of germ-killing soap. Well, that’s just what a lot of dolphins have been experiencing, thanks to a dangerous pesticide called Triclosan. Now found throughout the environment, Triclosan is right under your nose, in everyday cleaning products such as antibacterial soaps.

A petition to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency identifies the dangers of triclosan, noting its widespread use and also the failure of the EPA to take appropriate action. One of the leading organizers of the petition effort, Beyond Pesticides, states, “Triclosan is an endocrine disruptor and has been shown to affect male and female reproductive hormones, which potentially increases cancer risk. Recent studies show triclosan’s adverse effects on fetal growth and development.”
