Well, there is some truth to the rumor about PG County public schools shutting down some of the before and after care programs.

Un named inside sources gave these comments

"Only in those locations where child enrollment is down and the program is no longer self-supporting, yes PGCPS is looking to contract before and after care."

"Truly regret that you have been provided with inaccurate information and that this has caused you angst. We have no plans to discontinue the district sponsored before and after care program. The RFP was and is intended to solicit programs that can provide the service at schools where we currently do not offer programs because there is not enough interest to form a self sustaining program. I am sure you will agree that the before and after provides a valuable service to working parents and we are only trying to provide the service to everyone."

The Prince George’s County Council voted to confirm the appointments of Department Heads Thomas M. Himler, Office of Management and Budget, Gail D. Francis, Office of Finance, and Chief of Police, Mark A. Magaw.

“I am very pleased that the Council has approved these nominees, all of whom bring a wealth of experience, dedication, and talent to their agencies and departments,” said Baker. “As Acting Directors, they have proven their capacity to lead and to make a positive difference in this County. I am confident that they will continue to serve our residents with excellence and integrity.”

In accordance with the County Charter (Section 322: Confirmation of Administrative Appointments), heads of agencies in the Executive Branch are subject to confirmation by the County Council, which must act to confirm or reject such appointments within forty-five days of their submission. The County Council must also hold public hearings on all appointments not less than thirty days after they are submitted by the County Executive. In this morning’s hearings, Department Heads Himler, Francis, and Magaw were all confirmed by a unanimous vote of 8-0 (County Council Member Leslie Johnson was not present at the hearing

More than 50 representatives of state and local government bodies, Federal government agencies, military bases, utility companies, and universities attended a political summit hosted by the new ownership of Franklin Park at Greenbelt Station, a 153-acre rental apartment and townhome community located in Prince George’s County, MD. The participants agreed to form public-private partnerships to help redevelop and improve this 153-acre property that represents about half of the population of Greenbelt.

The summit is part of Fieldstone Properties’ virtually unprecedented effort to catalyze a rapid transformation of one of the largest apartment communities on the East Coast to provide safe, comfortable, convenient, and affordable workforce housing. As part of that effort, Fieldstone Properties is offering incentives for those who protect and serve, including veterans and displaced veterans, police officers, and firefighters. The ownership recently signed Rental Partnership Agreements with Fort George G. Meade, Fort Myer, and Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.

“Unlike so many owners and developers seeking to convert close-in properties to luxury housing, Fieldstone Properties is committed to working closely with the community and government to provide high-quality, affordable housing for people who live, work, and study in this area, including active-duty military and veterans, government employees, and students,” said Debbie Dillon, Executive Vice President, Fieldstone Properties. “By operating efficiently and buying in volume, we can offer renovated apartments with luxury finishes while keeping rents affordable for those with household incomes starting at $37,000.”
